To the cultural dimension and common language, research about Architecture, Urbanism and Design on an expressive context, as well as the bounds between the architectural, urban and design realities and the diversities in the Portuguese speaking countries. By exploring this general theme, the seminar celebrates our common roots and the developments that have occurred in them, over time, in different countries and regions, including those of the Portuguese Language.
The cultural moment in which we live in is marked by an overvaluation of our individual dimension and an insistent erasing of our collective dimension.
To the contemporary resistance of the recognition of ourselves, beyond the individual dimension, it also represents a resistance to the recognition of other times in the construction of the contemporary and even in the modern spirit and at a time when the more diffuse moral raises numerous obstacles to the transformation of the world by the work of Men, the size of the continuous novelty continues to make forget about this novelty is made of continuity and how our time, the moment of opportunity of our lives, it is no more than a narrow joint between past and future, with the possibility to consistently fill this ephemeral hiatus.
The idea of continuity in space and time, between our individual existence and our collective experience, is directly linked to the idea of identity, genetic heritage, a living together that somehow formatted a way of live in a unique fashion, a way to change the world, to describe, and these modes allow a sense of territory, independent of the sense of ownership, established mainly by the idea of community, sharing common experiences and the existence of instruments to describe and process these experiences.
To the idea of recognition we find a awkward feeling when we go around the world and, on a place where we'd never been before, we suddenly recognize, in a corner of a street, in a fragment of a conversation, in a smell, in a look or in a gesture, places belonging to our childhood, making us remember those Sunday lunches and the stones of the house we were born into.
We inhabit spaces and landscapes, but we also inhabit our language, the universe in which our ideas and meanings are constructed, the narrative of our experiences, the communication of what we learn, to whom we want to teach, establishing a coherent construction of Culture.
The presentation of papers is open to academics, researchers, professionals, graduate students, post-graduate, masters and integrated masters and doctoral courses of Architecture and Urbanism and the like.
